Carolina Camera: The Original Motorcycle Dog
Gaming preview: 'Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned' (Albuquerque Journal)
The first of two exclusive Xbox 360 downloadable extensions to "Grand Theft
Auto IV" hits the console on February 17. The "Lost and the Damned" expands
the "GTA IV" universe by putting you in the boots of a motorcycle gang member
(think "GTA" meets "Sons of Anarchy"). Besides a completely separate story
from the original "GTA IV" game, "The Lost and the Damned" will also introduce
various 16-player multiplayer modes.
To any guy (or girl) out there who knows a thing about motorcycles, help?
I'm currently writing a story where one of my characters is very mechanically inclined and has designed and successfully built an original motorcycle. She definitely knows what she's talking about, but unfortunately, I don't. This is posing a bit of a problem because I want her character to be developed enough that she almost seems realistic.
Anybody who can tell me anything, and I mean ANYTHING, about them, will have my undying gratitude for the rest of my life.... maybe not quite that long, but it would really help me a lot.
If you want it to seem as though she knows how to work on engines, you don't have to go into intricate detail, but you could always have someone walk into her shop while "she was at the work bench, leaned over a cylinder head lapping valves." This something one would do during an engine overhaul (rebuild). Or, if her bike has spoke wheels, she could be "truing a wheel", where the tension on the spokes are adjusted to make sure the wheel runs straight and true instead of having a wobble. Or if she is welding up a frame, she could be using an arc welder, which during use emits a blinding whitish-blue light and sounds like bacon or eggs frying. She would also be wearing a helmet (which have a dark colored lens to protect the eyes from the bright light) and maybe with a skull design painted on it (found on some helmets for those who want to be different.) Like I said, you don't have to go into extreme detail, but just throw a few terms in that normally only experienced mechanics would recognize. And if she has long hair, she either needs it pulled back into a pony tail or tucked up under a baseball style cap to keep it out of her eyes and from getting caught in power tools and such. Many shops have Snap-On (a manufacturer of some of the world's best tools) calendars, which normally have some sexy looking, scantily clad women wearing hard hats while holding tools, posing in front of large, bright red multi drawer tool chests, (something she would probably have in her shop as well to store her tools.) Since I assume she isn't a lesbian, she could have taped photos of Chippendale dancers over the chicks, making the calendar more female friendly. And if one of the subjects asks her something about her work, she could always dismiss their question by saying she had been in the shop all day and talking about work was the last thing she wanted to do. If you can't get all of the exact details, simply evade the question.

BAM! You just crashed your car. At this point, what happens next can depend on the quality of your car insurance. Before you crash your car, it's important to find good answers to questions about what kind of coverage you need and who should provide it. This article will help you understand the complex world of auto insurance.
To lower the cost of your insurance, you should pay attention to the kind of car that you wish to buy. If you buy a brand new car, insurance will be very high. On the other hand, a used car should allow you to get a lower rate, especially if it is an old model.
When you go hunting for car insurance bargains, do not neglect your employer as a potential source of discounts. Many companies - even relatively small ones - have arrangements with insurers to get volume discounts for their employees. If your employer has such a program in place, you might realize significant savings by taking advantage of it.
There are a great many auto insurance sites online that allow you to search for the lowest rates available from all of the major insurance providers. Before you sit down to do your research, have all relevant information with you at your computer: current agent, accident history, demographic, and vehicle make, model, and year.
Throw in the towel with your current insurance company and find a new one. Sometimes, even when you try to do all you can to get your rates down with your current insurer, you can still beat that rate with a different insurance company. Auto insurers try to attract new customers with lower rates, but they do not reward curent customers for loyalty. Chances are, new customers are paying less than you for the same coverage. It costs nothing to get quotes from other companies, so why not?
If you are a newlywed, have your automobile insurance policies combined. Companies offer something called a "multi-car discount", which means that you will save money just by putting your cars on the same plan. If the two of you don't have the same insurance company, consider changing one of your policies.
Sign up to get your auto insurance directly through the website of the insurance company of your choosing. Auto insurance is often cheaper when you apply online because it costs the company less to process your information that way. You may receive a discount of up to 10 percent by applying online.
Always receive quotes from multiple providers when seeking auto insurance. Even those providers you wouldn't consider at first could be offering the lowest rates. You never want to settle on any policy before comparing the price to others as there can be a great difference from one policy to the next.
Having multiple drivers on one insurance policy is a good way to save money, but having multiple drivers of one car is an even better way. Instead of opting for multiple automobiles, have your family make do with one car. Over the life of your policy, you can save hundreds of dollars by driving the same vehicle.
When you've narrowed down to a couple of cars that you want to buy, make sure to compare insurance rates and premiums for each car. Car insurance can vary based on things like price of the car, likelihood of theft, repair costs, and safety record. You might find that one car has a lower rate than others.
When it comes time to renew your auto insurance policy, be aware of how your carrier handles renewals. In most cases, you receive a renewal package in the mail with your new policy and rates. Review this information carefully, and question any increases in premium with your agent or a company representative. In most cases, once you submit a payment on the new policy, you have renewed your coverage.
Do not settle for the first auto insurance company that you find. You may be missing out on special discounts or rewards. For instance, some insurance companies offer discounted premiums for accident-free drivers, or for people of certain professions. Some even give discounts to college students who maintain good grades.
Be a safe driver! Do not be a high risk driver! Insurance companies view you as high risk if you have a lot of traffic violations, car accidents, or drunken driving violations. Some states have - no law to protect drivers - who are high risk, and insurers often will not accept high risk drivers in those states.
When you get in the car to drive to work each morning, you need to know, that should the worst happen, you have the necessary auto insurance to cover your liability costs and the damage to your car. If you put the tips in this article to good use, you will minimize the hassle involved in buying and using auto
